How LSSO Began

The newly formed Land Surveying Student Organization, (LSSO) was created by students currently attending Austin Community College in order to increase an interest in the industry of Land Surveying and to reach out to employers to encourage employees to pursue an education in Land Surveying. LSSO would like to see enrollment increase and eventually see more advanced classes offered at ACC. This organization is going to be an important link in the area surveying community, benefiting the students, ACC.s Land Surveying curriculum, and the Land Surveying industry. We have had a great response and I look forward to continuing this new journey. I would like to personally invite anyone interested in Land Surveying to join us at our next meeting to hear Jim Eckhardt discuss surveying in Central America. All students, employees, employers, and anyone interested are welcome to attend any of our meetings.

Sincerely,
Anna Burroughs
LSSO President

Comments By James Mason Vice President Of LSSO

We are so pleased with our warm welcome from all the members of TSPS. Anna, Scottie, Chris and I attended their Febuary 20th meeting at Threadgill.s. We were introduced and received a round of applause for our efforts to promote ACC.s Land Surveying Department. Bill O.Hara President of the Central Texas Chapter 13 of TSPS rallied together a vote from the members to donate $200.00 to help get LSSO under way. We got to hear a great presentation on copywriting surveys done by Robert Barcomb, RPLS, President and Owner of Arpenteurs Professional Surveying.

Anna & I were also invited to attend the area chapter meeting in Temple TX on March 11th. The key speaker was Joan Kilpatrick from the General Land Office. Her topic for the evening was the Adopt a Map Program. This program is set up for personal or corporate contributions of $500 to $3500 to help preserve maps that date back to the 1800.s. She brought along with her pictures of maps and of the incredible drawers that store these priceless pieces of art. The presentation was great, and I highly suggest checking out their web site at
www.glo.state.tx.us. It was also nice to meet other area chapters, and hear how the industry is working for them.
